East Grinstead Cricket Club loose a Life Member
East
Grinstead Cricket Club has lost one of it longest serving members with
the sudden death of John Skilton who died at the age of 86 following a
short illness.
John had been a tireless
worker since joining the club as a player in 1964; he held many
management positions including captaining the 2nd XI and the
Sunday XI, secretary, administrator, plus many other roles on a short
term basis.
A fully qualified umpire
he officiated in the Sussex League for many years and as part of the
Sussex umpires board undertook training and instruction for new umpires.
There are many umpires officiating today who benefited from Johns
tuition and experience.
John was present at the
cricket club every weekend throughout the season, whilst additionally
officiating at many midweek junior matches; he was a Vice President of
the Club for over 20 years and had recently been elected an Honorary
Life Member, a great character around the club he was well known in
cricket circles throughout Sussex. Many of the current playing staff and
management have benefited from his professional advice.
John
will be sadly missed throughout the club.
